Life at a startup can be fast. HomeHero’s team has been working remotely for over a year, and it’s no secret, as so many remote workers are finding, that switching off can be especially hard. Lines between work and home have become more blurred than ever, and without a commute to decompress, it can be challenging to strike the right balance. So, this Mental Health Awareness Week, we spoke to our team about their favourite methods of winding down, from meditating to running, reading and podcasting. Here’s a list of some of our favourite, and easy to access, resources.
FEEL GOOD FITNESS
A favourite with our Product Designer, Karl, Apple Fitness + is a fitness experience, for everyone, powered by Apple Watch. The platform includes world-class workouts from the very best trainers. With over 10 workout types and new classes added each week, from HIIT to yoga, there’s something for everyone.
Rated the number 1 fitness app in the UK, FiiT is loved by many, including our Industry Operations Analyst, Jaqui. FiiT brings the gym home to you, with hundreds of on demand classes, from group workouts and personal training plans, there are classes designed for entry level to advanced. At an affordable £10 a month, this is a firm favourite.
Centr is Chris Hemsworth’s app designed to help you train, eat and live better. It’s simple to use and easy to stay on track. Choose from a range of 6 week programs requiring zero to minimal equipment, including HIIT, boxing, yoga, MMA and more. The app also offers easy and healthy meal plans that auto generate a shopping list. Our favourite bit? Guided meditations and confidence building hacks with Chris Hemsworth himself.
REFLECTING & DECOMPRESSING
Mindful Moment is a platform set up by wellbeing and mindset coach Lily Silverton. The subscription gives you access to a range of tools to live mindfully, only taking a few minutes each day. The mindful practices include meditations, breathwork, body practices and mindset coaching. With new videos added fortnightly, and a host of live events too, Mindful Moment is perfect for those with busy schedules. The easy to follow practices vary from 3 minute breathwork sessions to 1 hour meditations.
Soul Sanctuary is an online platform with access to 280 movement classes, led by Cat Meffan. Ranging from restorative flows to dynamic vinyasa sessions to Yin and Power yoga, the classes explore these key pillars of yoga and restorative movement. The platform hosts guided meditations each month, and the facebook community is a great place to connect with like-minded members in a place of support. It’s a favourite with our People Operations Coordinator, Sam.
A firm favourite with many of the HomeHero team, the Headspace app is full of guided meditations, animations, articles and videos, all in the distinct, and easy to access, Headspace style. Headspace is on a mission to improve the health and happiness of the world, used by millions of people in more than 190 countries. With courses designed to improve sleep, stress, loneliness, change and grief – to name just a few, Headspace is the perfect starting point for newcomers to meditation.
With 90,000 free guided meditations, Insight Timer is the largest free library of meditations, and loved by our Complaints & Social Media Exec Mel. Available in over 30 languages, the sessions offer something for everyone, ranging from guided sleep meditation, to stress and new parent sessions. They host a huge range of accompanying playlists, and live talks too.
Daily Stoic is a subscription to a daily free email, sent to over 300,000 other stoics. The email is designed to help you cultivate strength, insight and wisdom enabling you to live your very best life. Daily Stoic online also hosts a huge collection of interesting and insightful articles, looking at everyday stoicism, dealing with stress, grief and anxiety. They have a highly acclaimed reading list too.
Calm is a popular meditations tool with lots of the HomeHero team. The app is designed to reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus and most notably, improve sleep quality. With hours of meditations and a library of over 200 sleep stories, the Calm app has lots to choose from. Popular sleep stories include famous voices like Harry Styles, Matthew McConaughey, Kate Winslet and Idris Elba, to name just a few.
With over 50 millions downloads, 9 out of 10 Relax Melodies users noticed an improvement in their sleep quality from using the app. Designed to help you fall asleep fast and quiet anxiety, Relax Melodies offers flexible plans, to fit into your routine. You can create your own mix, by choosing your favourite sounds and music with sleep meditations too. The app also hosts bedtime stories, a popular way to wind down in the evening.
