HomeHero’s Lead Technical Product Manager Vasanth Subramanian talks personalisation.

Thanks to a global audience provided by the internet, and software that can be infinitely replicated, entire industries and societies have been reshaped to be more user-centred. For better (and sometimes for worse!), technology has generally enabled the creation of more personalised, more convenient products and services.

Brands can succeed by leveraging global platforms for search and discovery, even if they are serving a very particular niche. For example, whilst clothing sizes and ranges were previously limited by retail floor space and the need to cater to a wide audience, you can now order any style you like, in any size, from anywhere in the world.

However, this personalisation and convenience is lagging behind when it comes to running a home. While you might be able to ask Alexa to turn on the lights, what about setting up all your bills? Moving in? Getting your landlord to fix a leak? At HomeHero, we’re building a product that we think fills that gap by bringing together your household services and payments together to help you manage your home.

Enter HomeHero

From a personal finance perspective, 30 years ago your bank was the be-all and end-all. You would get a current account with them, and probably stay with them for life. They’d be your first port of call for credit cards, mortgages and other financial services. All your bills, expenditure and other household spending would flow through a single account.

Like other industries, banking, financial and payment services have also experienced a similar explosion of personalisation in the last few years. The idea of sticking to a single current account for life seems laughably outdated when it’s possible to open an account with a digital bank in a few minutes with an app. Beyond the new generation of those banks, there are a variety of companies looking to build great products and user experiences around pensions, mortgages, insurance etc.

HomeHero is where we think we can help bring that personalisation to your home. We want to bring together your household bills and payments, local services and help with day-to-day problems and chores. By doing so, we think that every home can benefit from having more time for the things that really matter.

The Meaning of Meaningful Work

How we spend our days is how we spend our lives. And since we spend about a third of our day in the office, we spend a third of our life working. We’d better make that time count.
